PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Shawinigan 2 power plant, located on the Saint-Maurice river, is equipped with eight turbine-alternator groups, including five 14 MW horizontal Francis type groups commissioned in 1914 and three 36 MW vertical Francis type groups commissioned in 1929. This power plant, with a total installed power of 178 MW, had numerous problems related to the wear of the turbine-alternator groups, the obsolescence of installations, high maintenance (due to lack of parts) and operation costs and several other problems. Hydro-Québec had to completely upgrade the power plant installations.
