Detailed civil engineering design, including implementation drawings, quantity of materials, technical specifications; |

Detailed electrical and mechanical engineering design, including turbine characteristics, performance curves, powerhouse dimensions and equipment, transmission line characteristics and line drawings, technical specifications; |

Organization of 2 workshops in the Kampot province on the project issues; |

Economic evaluation for private project financing; |

Evaluation of the agricultural potential; |

Environmental impact assessment. The main issues are the loss of biodiversity, the impacts on the Bokor National Park, on water quality, river hydrology and sedimentation; |

Social impact assessment. The main issues are loss of sources of income for people involved in the harvesting and collection of plant species in the reservoir area, loss of income for those whose economic activities are related to the operation of the park and the bathing area downstream from the dam; |

Preparation of a preliminary resettlement plan. |

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This project consists of the hydroelectrical development of a 120 MW power plant on the Kamchay River, 150 km Southwest of Phnom Penh. The project, estimated at USD 120 000 000, requires the construction of a dam (130 m in height) that will create a reservoir of some 30 km 2. The project also comprises the water intake and powerhouse along with the evaluation of the substations and transmission line locations.
The project takes place in the Bokor National Park. The project can be of significant benefits to both the national economy of Cambodia and the local economy of Kampot. |
