PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Québec City has been investing in the renewal of its urban fabric for a good number of years. As part of this initiative, it decided to focus on the enhancement and restoration of Rivière Saint-Charles, with the following primary objectives:
developing diverse wildlife habitats on the banks of the river section where there was a concrete wall;
optimizing the recreational purpose of the section in question, notably by promoting access to the river for residents;
integrating and improving the bike and walking paths of the linear park, as well as its access from nearby neighbourhoods.

The project for restoring Rivière Saint-Charles incorporated several phases. This project was Phase III, which primarily consisted of the development of wildlife habitats. It involved restoration of the river's bank over a 2,160-metre stretch, and was the most important phase of the entire project for restoration of the river area. The bank to be restored was on the left side of the river, between the Scott and Lavigueur bridges.

The project objectives included demolition of the existing concrete wall and reshaping of the shore into a natural bank. This approach involved encroachment into the river as well as the 0-2 year flood zone. Plans involved shaping the river's bank so as to create various wildlife habitats and hence significantly increase the area's biodiversity. Doing so required the development of ponds, islets and large aquatic grass beds .

Phase III was executed by a group comprised of three companies: Teknika HBA, Pluram Urbatique and BPR Groupe-conseil. The project was led by Teknika HBA, which was also heavily involved in all progress phases, including site supervision.
