HYDRO-QUÉBEC
GEOPHYSICAL EXPLORATION PROJECT CHUTE ALLARD AND RAPIDE DES COEURS

CLIENT
Hydro-Québec

LOCATION
Chute Allard and Rapide des cœurs, on Québec's Rivière Saint-Maurice

DURATION
2000
SERVICES RENDERED
In the Chute Allard sector, which is located near the Weymontachie Indian reserve, the mandate included conducting geophysical surveys, by seismic refraction, and preparing survey drawings of the planned location of the works. It also involved geographical mapping of the site, and the drilling of exploratory holes and wells to verify the basement rock and identify borrow pit materials.

For the Rapide des cœurs sector, geophysical surveys by seismic refraction and survey drawings of the planned location of the works were also necessary, with geological activity limited to the course of survey lines. Given that the zone was only thirty or so kilometres downstream of the Chute Allard sector, borrow pit research was not necessary.

The work was conducted in order to determine the nature and certain properties of the rock and soil, as well as to identify the general geology of the zone concerned. They were completed so as to enable Hydro-Québec to carry out planned preliminary project design activities.

This report includes a description of the site investigation work conducted in the field and laboratory, a synthesis of the reports obtained, and our comments and conclusions regarding the investigations performed.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Hydro-Québec's Projects and New Developments group retained the professional and technical services of Les Laboratoires Shermont inc. to perform geological and geotechnical surveys of the locations where they were planning to develop two hydroelectric power plants (Chute Allard and Rapide des cœurs, on Québec's Rivière Saint-Maurice).
